Leiden is called Key to Discovery for a very good reason: for centuries this city has been associated with innovation. Renowned scientists including Spinoza, Descartes and Boerhaave have flocked to the city ever since Leiden University was founded in 1575.
In the 20th century, the university produced four Nobel Prize winners: Zeeman, Lorentz, Kamerlingh Onnes and Einthoven and the school is at the forefront in dozens of fields.
For example, Leiden University, the Leiden University Medical Center and the top research institutes in the Leiden Bio Science Park are among the best institutes for higher education and research in the life sciences field.
